CHESS
Chess is a epic combat strategy game played by two players. It was invented in India 1500 years ago and was earlier known as ”chaturanga”.It is a mental game and requires a lot of focus and practice to master it.It is played on a chess board which contains 64 squares and there are two colours in it white and black. There are 32 squares of white and 32 squares of black. Both side have 16 pieces each. The goal of the game is to capture or checkmate the opponents king.Below diagram illustrates the setup of the chess board.
Chess board have 3 types of rows
1)Rank-The 1,2,3.. are known as rank.
2)File-The A,B,C… are known as file.
3)Diagnol-The diagnols are basically the squares in which bishop moves
Chess is basically played in two types-
1)National chess
2)International chess
But nowdays only international version of chess is played.
International chess is also played in many different time controls like rapid, blitz, classical, bullet and fischer depending upon time control.
Standard Time Control:
The standard time control in chess is often referred to as “classical” or “traditional” time control. It involves each player having a set amount of time, usually 90 minutes, to make their first 40 moves, and then an additional 30 minutes for the remainder of the game. There is also typically a time increment of 30 seconds per move, which means that a player will gain 30 seconds of additional time for each move they make.
Blitz Time Control:
Blitz chess, also known as “speed chess,” is a fast-paced version of the game that typically involves games with a time control of three to five minutes for each player. This rapid pace of play makes it more difficult for players to think deeply about their moves, as they have very little time to make them. The fast pace of blitz chess can lead to mistakes and blunders, which can make the game more exciting for spectators.
Rapid Time Control:
Rapid chess is a variation of the game in which each player has between 15 and 60 minutes to make their moves. Unlike blitz chess, the slower pace of play allows for players to think more deeply about their moves and consider a wider range of possible options. Rapid chess is often used in tournaments as a way to speed up gameplay and allow more games to be played in a shorter amount of time.
Bullet Time Control:
Bullet chess is an extremely fast-paced version of the game, in which each player has just one minute to make all of their moves. This time control requires lightning-fast reflexes and a deep knowledge of chess strategy, as players must make quick decisions without much time to think. Bullet chess is often used as a way to settle ties or determine a winner in a rapid-fire tournament.
Fischer Time Control:
Fischer chess is a variation of the game in which each player is given a set amount of time, usually 30 minutes, to make all of their moves. However, there is also a time increment added to each move, usually around 30 seconds. This means that players can earn additional time as they make their moves, which allows them to think more deeply about their options as the game progresses.
Each piece has its unique way of moving:
The king can move one square in any direction.
The queen can move any number of squares diagonally, horizontally, or vertically.
The rook can move any number of squares horizontally or vertically.
The knight moves in an L-shape, two squares in one direction and then one square perpendicular to that.
The bishop can move any number of squares diagonally.
Pawns move forward one square at a time, except for their first move, when they can move two squares forward.
In addition to moving their pieces, players can also capture their opponent’s pieces by landing on a square occupied by an enemy piece. Pawns capture diagonally, while all other pieces capture by moving onto the square occupied by the enemy piece.
